85-Year-Old Woman Backed Over by Semi in Fort Collins
Fort Collins resident Ilse Westphal was waiting at a bus stop on Harmony Road just west of Ziegler Road early Tuesday afternoon. At the same time, a semi was about to back up into a construction site near the bus stop. Apparently, the semi blocked her view so Ilse walked behind it to view traffic. The driver of the semi, Anthony Jansa, 55, of Williston, North Dakota, could not see the 85-year-old woman as he began backing into the construction zone and ran over Westphal who was looking in the opposite direction.
Westphal suffered serious injuries and was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies. Jansa was uninjured.
One lane of westbound Harmony Road was closed for approximately 2 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.
