Best Pizza In Greeley – Butch’s Top 5 Joints
So we have this great big shindig coming up on the 26th of January where we will determine the best pizza in Northern Colorado. All this pizza talk leading up to the La-Z-Boy Great Colorado Pie Fight has made me rather hungry. Although we will determine the best pizza in the whole region on the 26th, I thought I would share my favorites from the town I grew up in… Greeley.
I usually try to stay local with these sorts of blogs, bug I can’t deny that Old C’s makes a damn good pie. True Chicago style pizza with a deep fresh crust and even fresher toppings. Of all the pizzas on my list, my favorite thick crust pie goes to these guys!
Great family owned pizza joint in Greeley since 1962, but with a short hiatus mixed in. Up until just a few short years ago in 2008 Greeley was without the homemade tastes of Santeramos since 1987, but thank goodness they are back and better than ever with hearth baked, oven fresh pies.
Nothing goes better with pizza, in my humble opinion, than beer. There is no better place in Greeley to have beer and pizza than at the Jager. A cozy basement bar in the heart of downtown, the Jager almost always has live music, great drinks, and huge delicious pizza. Their website doesn’t say how big these New York style pies are, but they are truly the biggest I have ever seen. Bigger doesn’t always mean better, but at the Jager it sure does!
Since 1988 if U.N.C students wanted pizza they have gone to Roma. Voted best pizza and takeout by the Greeley Tribune many times, Roma is truly a Greeley staple. Not only is the pizza amazing, but a few years back they made it more convenient to get for the “west-sider’s” by opening a location on west 10th Street. You haven’t lived in Greeley until you have had a Bazooka Beer and a pizza at Roma!
Since 1966 Fonta’s is the place for a taste of Greece in Greeley. From gyros to baklava, they know Greek food, but they also know pizza. To me, there is nothing like the thin, square cut pizza from Fonta’s. If I really want pizza and I get my choice of where to go 9 times out of ten I am going to Fonta’s!
