A Lafayette man was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder on Saturday after a domestic violence incident.

According to the Longmont Times-Call, police were responded to a residence in the 400 block of North Finch Avenue at around 9 a.m. Saturday after Joseph Salvadore Borrego, 48, sprayed lighter fluid inside the home.

The unidentified victim fled the scene, and police arrested an armed Borrego while he was walking in the neighborhood, Lafayette police Cmdr. Brian Rosipajla told the Times-Call, who noted that Borrego and the victim were previously involved in a relationship.

Borrego, who was arrested March 10 on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence, could also potentially face charges in this most recent incident of attempted arson, burglary, stalking, possession of a weapon, violation of a restraining order, reckless endangerment, and domestic violence.

He was being held at Boulder County Jail on no bond Sunday. Borrego's first court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Boulder County Jail courtroom.
