I am about to have the hottest house on the block! Well... I think, I have not asked any of my other neighbors if they are growing scorching hot peppers in their gardens this year. But, I can only assume that I am the only one crazy enough to endure the upcoming pain of these hot lil plants.

Over the weekend I went to a couple of different nurseries to pick up some plants to grow for the summer. At Fossil Creek Nursery, I was able to find some super hot pepper plants.

The first plant I picked up is the Carolina Reaper. According to Pepper Joe's website, the Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper in the world. Coming in at 2-2.2 million on the scoville scale.

Next is the Trinidad Scorpion Pepper. This is the second hottest pepper in the world according to the scoville scale. The rating is 1.1-2 million.

In the next pot, is the Ghost Pepper. I grew some of these last year. Not very successfully, but I was able to get a couple of peppers off the the plant. We tried them raw... It was like having an angry wasp sting the inside of your mouth for 15 minutes straight. The Ghost Pepper ranks at 855,000-1.1 million on the scoville scale.

Now, on to the tamer side of the hot pepper world.

The next plant is a Chocolate Habanero Plant. These peppers tend to be a bit bigger than the regular habaneros and they also have a smoky flavor to them. They rank 300-570,000 on the scoville scale.

Finally, we come to the last plant that was purchased over the weekend. The regular orange Habanero. Habaneros have almost a fruit like flavor with a lot of sting. This is probably the only plant that I will use for straight up direct cooking and not in hot sauces.

Here is the happy little family of spicy that is ready to produce some great heat in my life!

I cannot wait to see how these will perform this year. I opted to get some better soil and compost, did some research and feel like that I have a better grasp on how to grow peppers much better than this time last year!
