Most of us in Fort Collins have no idea that a 19th century mansion, the yellow Hottel House, used to stand where the downtown Ace Hardware now does.

And, it's kind of a shame, because it was gorgeous. According to Forgotten Fort Collins, the historic home was leveled in the 1960s to make way for a JC Penny, which is now Ace. (Thankfully, that would likely not have happened today.)

The home was built in the late 1800s, and its development played a role in Fort Collins getting electricity, according to Forgotten Fort Collins, which has a pretty interesting read and additional photos here.
